The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a major shift in its examination pattern by approving open book tests for Class 9. This change aims to move away from rote memorization and place greater emphasis on understanding and application of concepts.
In this format, students will be allowed to use textbooks or prescribed study materials during the exam. The goal is to evaluate analytical thinking, comprehension, and problem-solving abilities rather than testing memory alone.
The initiative will first be rolled out in selected schools as a trial run. Teachers are being trained to create question papers that focus on real-world scenarios and deeper conceptual understanding. If the pilot proves effective, the system may be extended to more classes and schools across the country.
Education specialists believe this could make learning more interactive, reduce exam stress, and better prepare students for higher studies and professional challenges.
